Equivalence of degrees
A recognition decision is required when the position demands a higher education degree of a certain level, or when the position in question is a so-called regulated profession, i.e. when a certain education or degree is required from the practitioners of the profession.
The Finnish National Board of Education decides on the competence of the foreign degree in Finland. Usually a certification of foreign education is not valid on its own right.

Field specific authorities decide on granting the right for practising one’s profession.
The right for practising a profession is required in Finland for, e.g. health care practitioners (see the whole list on the web page of the Finnish National Board of Education).
