At Seure, a food service officer (ruokapalveluvastaava) works in daycare centres and small schools that have either heating or serving kitchens. The meals prepared in the kitchens vary; they include special diets, breakfast, snacks and lunch side dishes.
The working day also includes self-monitoring, dishwashing, baking, kitchen and dining room cleaning, taking care for the serving line, receiving and storing food, and other assistive tasks.
Depending on the number of diners and the operation of the kitchen, one or more people may work in the kitchens, with the second employee assisting with dishwashing, for example. In other words, the food service officer may be the only person responsible for food services at the workplace.
There is plenty of work available, so employees can customise a package that suits their own schedule. Work is available from one-day substitutions to longer employment relationships. Shifts mostly take place on weekdays, from 7:00 to 15:00.
